At age 13, bassist Duane Propes began his professional career in the roadhouses on Hwy. 80 in Longview, Texas. After relocating to Nashville in 1985 to attend Belmont College, he became one of the founding members of LITTLE TEXAS in 1988 at the age of 22. Following the hiatus of LITTLE TEXAS in early 1998, Duane worked in artist relations for the Steinberger/Tobias division of Gibson Guitars before relocating to Houston for an 18 month period to manage a friend, John Breland's Sound Check Music Complex. There he produced a CD featuring some of the songs he has written. He also produced a CD, "Pass the Rice", for the popular Cajun group, Bayou Roux and one for Russell Ray of Houston, featuring Duane's "Bigger than Dallas". Duane has this posted on the website: “We lost our twenties to the road while our friends were living in reality. We never really had time to grow up, and there were now families, babies and wives, all needing us to be there for them. Looking back, we probably could have done things differently, but at the same time the years we spent being real people and living real lives gave us a better sense of who we are, what we do and why we do it." "We’re doing this again because we love it, and we love to see people having a good time and enjoying the show. There is a time for everything, and at that point it was time for our loved ones to have us back for a while. It all happened for a reason.” Duane's hobbies include guitars (Gibson, and
lots of 'em), diving and golf, but his family remains his primary focus. |

In the
very early days, we rehearsed and wrote songs eight hours a day out of
a
trailer located at the end of Little Texas Lane in a hollow called
Little
Texas. One day, as we individually walked into the trailer for
rehearsal, we
each made the same arriving comment: 'What about calling our band
Little
Texas?' And we've been Little Texas ever since. Duane

We never
really realized how big we were and we kind of knew it wouldn't last.
We went
from playing bars to playing arenas and when you do that, you don't
think about
it ending. We made a lot of money and we spent a lot of money, and now
we're
looking forward, not backward. Duane

Duane and his
Dad fully restored this beautiful,
1964 1/2 Black and White Mustang Coupe Duane wrote this about his Mustang: "Restoration of this beauty began in 1993 and continued, off and on, until the early part of August 2000. It was completely original with the exception of the exhaust system, radiator, vinyl top, tires and miscellaneous seals that all just gave up over the last 36 years. This car was built in Memphis in June of 1964, and purchased by a doctor in Little Rock in July of the same year. This car was sold to a young lady heading off to college in the mid-70's and remained in her possession until its sale to Duane in '93. Restoring this car was a long labor of love for my father and me." |
